Looking Unto Jesus

Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The phrase here speaks of a steadfast, intent, and continuous gaze.  How easy it is to get our eyes off him and look to the left or right.  Perhaps to our left we see another runner behind us.  It may be that a runner is far ahead of us on the right.  This then can produce pride (as we view the left runner) and envy (as we see the runner on the right). Both are sin and cause us to slow down!  We are instead to keep looking at Jesus.

If you would be disappointed, look to others.

If you would be discouraged, look to yourself.

If you would be delighted, look at Jesus.

“For the joy that was set before Him.”

The nature of this joy is explained in Jude 1:24 “Now unto Him (Jesus) that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.”

Daniel Waters, the fourth child of John R. Waters  was called as the fourth pastor of Good News Baptist Church in 2000, the year of the death of his father. The date of his first message was June 11, a day after his mother’s birthday who went to be with the Lord, June 9th, one day before her 94th birthday.

Gail Waters, the wife of the pastor is the third child in her family. The actual signing of the charter membership was on the 3rd of April, 1988. She is the best Pastor’s wife I know.

Jesus Christ has been and always will be the head of Good News. Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

We thank the Lord for his preservation of this church over the years and for the fine folks who have assembled with us. May God bless you all as you continue to serve the Master.
