Tarrying

After the resurrection of Jesus, the Anointed Messiah prophesied and promised in the OT, He appeared to his disciples and told them to “tarry.”

Sometimes, the believer simply needs to “tarry” until Christ works. However, we are in such a hurry to get our will accomplished that we seldom think of “tarrying.” The disciples waited in seclusion for fifty days, praying. That’s a long while to be meeting and praying, but they were obedient and hopeful. Let me put this in perspective. Easter was April 16th. The Sunday that falls about fifty days later will be June 4th. For a little over a month and a half they “tarried.” I wonder what would happen if all of the Lord’s churches would have a simultaneous fifty day prayer meeting? All that I can do is to remind each of us about the importance of prayer and to ask each of us to be much in prayer. Maybe you would like to take the next month and ante up your prayer life for some particular need and request. In the disciple’s case, thousands were saved after their fifty day prayer meeting. One great need is for the unsaved to be saved. Could we not pray for souls.

Recently, our three-man team has knocked on the doors of six or seven developments—Meadow Farms, Dill Creek, Avalon Chase, Belshire, Watkins Circle, Reserve at Riverside, and Riverside Commons. (approximately 400 homes) We have had the opportunity to speak to ‘very interested’ to ‘maybe interested’ individuals. Would you pray for these individuals? Also, we sent out an EDDM (Every Door Direct Mail) to about 713 homes recently. Would you pray for these  individuals? Surely, there are unsaved individuals in behind these doors. Could you tarry with us in prayer for these 1000 plus homes and the several thousand people they represent?  This has been about a month long effort. The seed has been sown, but we need the rain of God’s Holy Spirit conviction on these lives. Will you help us pray for the seed planted that it will take root and grow in good soil? Will you tarry with us in prayer for fifty days, forty days, thirty days, twenty days, ten days, one day, or one hour?

Act 1:13  And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room,

Will we be an Upper Room disciple of Christ?

Act 1:14  These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

Will we be a man of prayer? Will we be a woman of prayer?

1 Corinthians 3:6  I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

Will we water the plantings?

Greer and the surrounding communities are our Jerusalem. Your  neighborhoods are your Jerusalem. Will you go to your Jerusalem? Will we pray for laborers to go if we cannot?

Matthew 9:38  Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Will we pray for laborers?

John 4:35  Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.  Will we lift up our eyes?

Will we “tarry” together in prayer for the unsaved, the white harvest around us?
