Truth

We are living in a time when truth is almost extinct. I’m sure you’ve experienced some type of false information like I have. One of my Messenger Preacher friends supposedly was writing to me wishing me a good day in the Lord and that his prayers were with me. I gave a sincere thanks. Another message arrived saying many other nice spiritual sounding things and closed with the words ‘hugs’ and a smiley face. This was so out of character for  this person. I returned the message with a thanks and that I was not used to such. Then the real messenger came through. Have you heard the good news about Home Improvement for the disabled, hearing impaired, etc. I immediately told this person, “You are not          , and I will inform him immediately. No reply to that.  This sales person was posing as a friend of mine. He was lying with all his nice words, and what amazed me was the spiritual tone of the words, but it was all fake, untrue. I’m sure you have experienced this as well. Lies or untruth are sadly becoming the norm in our society for personal gain. Like Pilot of old our society says sarcastically, “What is Truth?”

While studying this past week, I was greatly impressed with the connection with the Holy Spirit and truth. Here are verses as an example.

John 14:17  Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. The believer is indwelt with not just the Holy Spirit, but more distinctly, indwelt by the Spirit of Truth.

John 15:26  But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

This Spirit of Truth is sent by Jesus as a Comforter to the saint; this Spirit of Truth proceedeth from the Father; this Spirit of Truth testifies of Jesus. This is the ministry of the Spirit of truth to the believer.

John16:13  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

His ministry includes guidance; His ministry includes not speaking of Himself. (This is certainly not a characteristic of some who make much of the work of the Holy Spirit’s in other ways.) He speaks to us that which He hears from Jesus and the Father; He shows the believer things to come. This is the ministry of the Holy Spirit, called repeatedly the Spirit of Truth. The anointing of the Spirit is greatly misunderstood. 1 John 2:27  But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. This anointing is the Holy Spirit of Truth who teaches the believer. He is not a spirit that causes the believer to have some kind of special charisma; He is a Teacher; He is the Spirit of Truth.

He also sanctifies or sets apart believers for service. John17:17  Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.  The work of sanctification is through truth, the Spirit of Truth, and the Word of God. Ephesians 5:9  (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) 2 Thessalonians 2:13  But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 1 Peter 1:22  Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: Notice the words in this sanctification process: fruit, goodness, righteousness, truth, purified, unfeigned (not fake) love for other believers, pure heart, and fervently. These are wonderful attributes and characteristics of the believer who is sanctified by or through the Spirit of Truth. So much is taught today that is simply not true especially concerning the Spirit. Then it is not the Holy Spirit, for the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. The believer is to be filled with this Spirit of Truth according to Ephesians 5:18. The most prominent characteristic of the Holy Spirit is “TRUTH!” 1 John 5:6  This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
